Will Obama-mania spread the DC bug to more college students this summer?

Time will tell the answer, but as many summer programs begin their application process, I have to wonder if the new optimism and excitement surrounding the Obama administration will make more students abandon their traditional summer jobs in search of a Hill internship or grassroots advocacy job. For all the talk about DC politics as usual and the continued Blago-drama and all those politicians not paying their taxes, the glow has not worn off yet for the many thousands of college students in America who felt they made a tangible impact in the 2008 elections.

Groups like The Fund for American Studies offer students a chance to “Live. Learn. Intern.” In the nation’s capital we’ll likely be best able to measure this phenomenon, as students in colleges from California to Florida start contemplating their summer plans.

Will our nation’s lifeguard chairs stand empty, our summer camps go understaffed, and our golfers carry their own clubs this summer? The Scholar Scoop will check on this phenomenon as it develops this spring…
